The two tables differ in scope: the first shows export quotations in US dollars on FOB Tianjin terms (for international buyers), the second shows domestic Chinese market prices in renminbi on ex-works, tax-included terms. Do not compare the two directly without converting currency and terms.
Grade and silicon content. Higher silicon content (FeSi75 vs FeSi72) commands a higher price per ton; when comparing grades, use the price per unit of silicon.
Impurity limits. Low-aluminium grades (e.g. Si75 Al < 0.1%) carry a premium because they require tighter process control and are needed for electrical steel and other critical applications.
Production cost. Electricity is the dominant cost in ferrosilicon smelting (submerged-arc furnace process), followed by quartz, coke/charcoal reductant and electrode paste. Regional power prices directly move the ex-works price.
Supply and demand cycles. Steel production levels, seasonal demand in foundries, and export policy (e.g. export duties or quotas) shift prices over the year.
For a reliable, current price, provide the supplier with the following information: grade (Si content, e.g. FeSi75 or FeSi72), impurity limits (especially aluminium), form and size (lump size range, or powder/granule), quantity and delivery terms (FOB, CIF or ex-works), destination port, and any certificate or inspection requirements. The supplier's quotation should state the validity period of the price.
